MAW-Mail E-mail List

Members of the Mycological Association of Washington may join the MAW-Mail e-mail list. This purpose of this list is to discuss MAW activities and the mushroom scene in the Washington DC area. You can subscribe to the list by sending an e-mail to: MAW-Mail-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.  You need not include any message text.

If you wish to use the more advanced features of the MAW-Mail website, you will need to sign up for a free Yahoo account. If you already have a Yahoo account, you will need to link that account to MAW-Mail.  Either action can be accomplished by clicking the button below.

What’s an e-mail list?

For those of you not familiar with e-mail lists (also known as listservers), a short description is in order.  Simply put, a listserver provides a means of automatically making copies of an e-mail message and distributing them to a large number of people, each of whom have signed up ("subscribed") to receive such messages.  This way, a group of people can have an extended on-line "conversation" about some shared topic of interest.  Listservers also provide a means of distributing announcements to the group of subscribers.

There are numerous ways the MAW-Mail list can be used.  Examples include mushroom fruiting alerts, foray announcements, recipe exchanges, postings of (or links to) interesting mushroom-related news items or articles, announcements of outside events of interest to MAW members, bragging about finds, etc.

MAW-Mail Usage Guidelines:

  1. Be nice! Remember that e-mail lacks the cues present during voice communication, and it is therefore often difficult to divine when something is meant in jest.
  2. Messages should be related to mushrooms or MAW business.  Please don’t use the list for general chitchat.
  3. Messages should be of interest to the membership in general. Personal e-mail that is intended for specific person should not be sent to the list.
  4. Advertisements for commercial (i.e., for-profit) ventures in which the sender has an interest are not allowed.
